Principal Technical Services/Alternate Mine Engineering Manager

The role described is for a Principal Technical Services/Alternate Mining Engineering Manager at a NSW based mining company’s flagship site. Reporting to the Mining Engineering Manager, this role involves overseeing Technical Services teams, ensuring safe mining practices, compliance with plans, and fostering a safe work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Technical Services team (Mine Planning, Geology, Geotechnical, Scheduling)

  • Contribute to overall technical services management effectiveness

  • Expand mine reserves based on known resources

  • Provide timely designs for adherence to mining schedules

  • Ensure safe and efficient mine ventilation design

  • Offer specialist technical support to Mine Manager

  • Plan, assign tasks, monitor work progress, and provide guidance

  • Investigate new mining techniques for un-mineable areas

  • Review design concepts for safe mining practices

  • Manage safety, budget, and operational issues

  • Zero safety incidents, effective technical processes, and rapid process improvements

  • Increased mineable shapes and data within economic context

  • Timely designs, cohesive teamwork, and high operational standards

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Safety measures (3TCs, pre-starts, inspections)

  • Attendance, teamwork, and performance of duties

  • Quality/quantity of technical services support and plans

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering

  • Mining Engineering Manager Certificate of Competence

  • Physical capabilities for office work and occasional underground inspections

  • Competencies in driving, first aid, literacy, numeracy, and computer skills

Preferred Experience:

  • 5-10 years underground mining experience, including planning, geotechnical, geology, and scheduling

  • Supervisory experience, risk management, and report writing skills

  • Proficiency in software like Vulcan, Deswik, or other 3D modeling tools

  • Exposure to Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies

The incumbent should be capable of handling physical demands, possess specific qualifications, competencies, and a preferred level of experience within the mining sector. The role involves a mix of office work and occasional underground inspections, demanding a keen focus on safety, technical expertise, and leadership skills.
